This page will be updated soon - Happy holidays Andy!!!

25th April 2010,

Todays visitors to the "field of dreams" (not my words) were to be the mighty Shire Colts, who were

currntly 2nd in the unofficial league table for the division. On their arrival, they were found to be not quite so mighty, pitching up with 10 players. Game went ahea none the less, and we set about avenging our defeat to them earlier in the season.

With our first ref away climbing Everest, we rustled up a couple of replacements from the touchline.

Many thanks to the pair of them fro a faultless performance.

1st team game report

Good game, 2-2 .Andy feel free to embelish this further if required.

2nd team report.

With the result standing t 2 all from the 1st game, we set about our task. With the newly rehearsed goal scoring demonstrations fine tuned , I was optimistic of a display or 3!

With Big George stepping in for Marcus during the 1st game, Marcus stepped into play right back. Kieran put on the gloves for the 1st half and, as always put in a confident performance against a spirited attack, rewarded with a clean sheet.

We wer more than a match for the Colts, in a game where, due to there shortfall in numbers, we were up against some very able players from the 1st game. Good attacking football from Mason and Ian and George Sanders, was unlucky not to be rewarded with a goal. Would we ever get to show the fans our well drilled routine?

We went in at half time 0-0. A hugely motivational half time talk fired the players up for the second half. Kieran stepped into midfield and Ian donned the (very large ) gloves.

Within minutes we were 2-0 up with stunning goals from Mason and Kieran.Celebrations were witnessed by all pitch side, the practising had finally paid off.  The opposition were reeling and we ploughed on, relentlessly. With the wind on our backs the game was 1 way traffic. Sophie played her socks off( not literally of course, that would be silly) Jack and Owen also covering lots of ground and working hard.

We wer unlucky to concede. Ian struggling with the distance between his head and the crossbar, followed by a second shortly after. With the game finely balanced at 2-2 Kieron broke loose and buried his shot past the Colts Keeper. He Turned to the crowd, Kissed his shirt badge and the celebrations erupted.

Ian pulled off some fine saves to keep the opposition attack at bay. Mason was given Man of the match by the parents, but in my eyes they all deserved it. 3-2 was the end result, 5-4 on aggregate.

Well done to all who played and supported.

See you on Tuesday.

18 April 2010

Todays fixture was away to Oldland Abbottonians. We had drawn with them 3-3 at home earlier in the season, so on paper, todays game had the potential to be a close run thing.

First team won 1-3

second team lost 2-1

Aggregate score 3-4 to us!!!!!

Team A

Team B

The team took to the pitch with  3-1 lead to protect.

Team was George P, Kieran, William, Mason, Sophie, Dante and Ian.

1st half saw Kieran wearing the green top. We created plenty of chances but were unable to convert them into goals. William, in his NEW boots, controlled the game, with sophie at the back. Sophie stuck well to her task and between them they cut the attack very little slack. We were unlucky to go into the break 0-1 down.

Second half saw George and Kieran swap the goalkeeping duties. Kieron dominated in midfield and George provided a brave performance in goal. Sophie pushed into midfield and assisted Ian in chasing down their midfield, Excellent workrate from both of them. Dante dropped in to the leftback position to assist William and played really well.

We were unlucky to concede a second, leaving the aggregate score at a finely balanced 3-3, until Mason deliverd on what he'd been threatening all game and fired one in to give us the lead and secure the win.

A great game, by 2 evenly matched team on a lovely day.

Well done to all the players.

14 March 2010

Today is one of the most important days of the year. We had our game against the top team in  the division, Mangotsfield. Unbeaten in league games to date, Already with our scalp in the bag from a cup defeat earlier in the season. Today was a big day, and to boot , it was a double header, 2 games played at 1 fixture........Oh yes, and today is Mothers day also. A day traditionally celebrated by mums across the land with brekfast in bed, flowers, a leisurely walk with the family to a nice pub for lunch followed by 3 hours watching the kids play football... What a splendid day! At least the sun was shining. But would it shine on our young warriors as we took on the mighty Mangotsfield??.

Team A 1st match report.

Team B 1st match report.

With no subs available for the game today, I prepared the players for the task at hand. It was going to be a tough slog. The pitch was in great condition, which meant it wouldn't be heavy, but I knew some of the lads had played sport already in the morning. I chose to play a different keeper in each half game to give some of the players a rest. Congratulations and thanks to  the keepers who all volunteered for the task.

We took to the field after a fine 1st game performance, knowing that if we could just hold it together and sneak a goal then we could take a point or even three. Nathan started in goal and put in a fine performance. A spectacular save saw him take the ball firmly in the chest, stopping a certain goal but dihing him a painful blow which saw him step out for a few minutes. George Sanders stepped in the gloves and stood up to the plate admirably.

Nathan rejoined the game and ,with Kyle, marshalled the defensive positions with determination.

We came in at half time unlucky to be 1-0 down. We'd been more than a match for them, but were struggling to generate many attacking opportunities.

George stayed in goal and made some fine saves. With 5 minutes to go we forced a corner and in an attempt to get a much needed goal, we commited defensive players to the attack.  Mangotsfield broke quickly and scored, quickly followed by a 3rd.

Despite creative positional play from Reece and Jack, we couldn't find a way back into the game and finished up losing our first match 3-0. I Didn't feel we had been out played, we just hadn't worried their defence enough.

We'd get a chance to correct that in the second match.

Team A 2nd match report.

Team B 2nd match report.

First up in goal for the 2nd game was Kyle. His work rate in the 1st game had been phenomenal and this was a chance to recharge his batteries. Ian pushed up into the centre forward roll, looking to cause problems with his pace. With George Sanders and George Smith in support, I was hoping to create some attacking opportunities.

I chose to play 3 at the back, Nathan adopting a central Defender/ Sweeper roll with Jack and Reece on either side. Nathan battled hard and put in a fine performance. Jack and Reece assisted but we were unable to stop the home team scoring 3 times before the break.

At half time I chose to swap it around. George Smith went into goal, Nathan into attack and Kyle in to the middle at the back. George Sanders put in a performance that earnt him the Man of the Match, He was everywhere, challenging for every ball and playing with  real determination. Kyle marshalled the defenece well and Reece covered a lot of ground,  joining the attack and tracking back to defend. Jack put in some fine tackles in defence, and Nathan and Ian both came close at the front. Despite this heroic effort.we finished the game losing 4-0.

No Shame for a team that could have benifited from a couple of pairs of fresh legs, playing "The Team" in the diviosion. We'd given a good account for ourselves and given them a tougher game than they'd expected.

Looking at the voting for the M.O.M whilst George nicked the parents vote, there were a couple of other close runners and that was there for all to see, well done everybody.

We'll do them next time we meet!

Congratulations to all who played and thankyou, particularly to the mums for bringing and watching the boys play. I hope you got taken out for tea!

Training on Tuesday, see you there.

7th March 2010.

I cannot beleive it has been exactly 1 month since we played a game!  Today we entertained Stoke Lane at YOSC, who, as we found out earlier in the season were going to provide tough opposition. How tough would they be?, read on and find out.

1st match report

2nd Match report.

I'm getting deja vu here. Once again the team took to the field with Stoke Lane having scored 5 goals in the first game. Stoke lane had played a very physical and strong 1st game. Would they do the same in the second?

Yate lined up with Kieran between the sticks for the first half. He battled bravely against a spirited attack that kept coming in waves. Another fine performance from him and excellent work from Lewis and Nathan kept the visitors to a 2 goal lead at half time.

They hadn't outplayed us, and there was an element of luck about both their goals, but they were proving to be very physical as expected, and we were struggling to complete.

Following a stiff half time talking to, a re-vitalised team set to the pitch. Reece replaced Kieran in goal, with kieran taking up center of defence. Reece made a series of fine saves to keep Yate in the game and we were unlucky to concede.

We set about the oppositions goal from that point with fast and furious attacking play. Sophie very nearly pulled 1 back, coming ever so close with a fine effort..

Then George Sanders let loose. A fine through ball which he chased down and let rip with a real netbuster of a shot.

The keeper was left clutching at fresh air as the ball tore into the net, a splendid strike from a player who worked hard all game.

Despite further attacks , we were unable to increase our tally and fine defensive work from Jack and Owen, stopped the visitors extending their lead further. George Smith looked sharper as the half progressed , having taken a knock at the very start of the game. I'm sure that given another 15 minutes, we could have pulled it level, maybe even have stolen the win.

Well done to all involved. Thankyou to all the players for taking their turns as substitutes, and the 2 keepers for volunteering for duty.

Mangots field away is the next game, Sun 14th March, (Mothering Sunday!). This will be the toughest game of the season, as they have a 100% record. If my Team can be as spirited and determined as they were this week, we may just give then someting to think about!

See you on Tuesday..

7th Feb 2010

For todays game we made the trip across bristol to play the In-form Shire Colts. They were undefeated in the league so far with an impressive goal difference. Could we beat them? We gave it a good try, read the match reports below to find out how we got on.

1st game report

2nd game report.

The team took to the pitch on the back of an excellent win against Stoke Lane and spirits were high.

There were some changes to the team and the absence of any subs meant that it was going to be a tough 40 minutes of football for all the players.

We kicked off knowing that a win by 3 goals would be good enough for the draw. Spirited attacking play from Kieron Kaye, charging forwards from defence and the combination of Lewis Wynn, Mason England

and George Sanders terrorising the oppositions defence saw us bag 3 goals and go into the break 3-3 . The 3 goals came about through excellent play from all the team, Wynn and Sanders dazzling the defence with there dribbling skills, Englands pace on the right proving too much for the left back, giving him a well earned goal.

Kayes physical presence in defence and as an attaching left back bagged him two goals and the parents Man of the Match award.

The Defence held solid and were unlucky to concede . Sophie Bull displayed ball control skills that wouldn't have looked out of place in the Premiership, George Smith and Reece Bounds sticking to the task well ,contributed to a great 1st half of football.

The second half kicked off with Lewis Wynn dropping into goal, Reece Bounds stepping into the right back position and George Smith pushing up to center forward, keen to increase his goal tally after his brace in the last game.

Shire fired in 2 quick goals and some of our players were finding it hard work. Because of the lack of subs they all had to dig deep and were rewarded by pulling a goal back. With the score at 5-3 Sophie, Kieron and Reece held firm at the back.  With solid goalkeeping from Lewis behind them, Shire failed to add to their score. The Forward trio of Smith, Sanders and England kept the pressure on the Shire colts and Sanders hard work was rewarded with the 4th goal.

The score finished 5-4 to the Colts in a game where a Yate team that had played their socks off and been very entertaining to watch, had been unlucky not to get the victory, a fantastic effort by all involved. Bring on the return fixture at the end of February !

Many thanks to Lewis and Reece for taking their turns and performing well between the sticks.

See you all on Tues.

25th Jan 2010

Today we played Stoke Lane in an away fixture. In what were 2  very evenly contested games, Stoke Lane ran out winners 7-4 on aggregate.

1st game report.

The players took to the pitch for the second game knowing that they had to win by 5 goals to clinch the overall win. Straight from the whistle we attacked and were rewarded with our first goal in under a minute from in form striker William The arrival of George P as a substitute resulted in a further 2 goals before half time, both of which he took extremely well. The pre match plan of releasing the attackers direct from the huge goalkicks of Captain Keeper Kieran  was working well. Kayes performance between the sticks was outstanding, numerous saves keeping his team in the game and on their way to victory. The team came in at half time 3-1 up.

The second half saw a very determined fight back from Stoke Lane and they quickly pulled a goal back.

Determined defending from Nathan at the back, kept the opposition at bay and deservedly earnt him man of the match. Dazzling attacking runs from Lewis and Ian helped Yate to keep taking the game to the opponents and we had the post and crossbar to blame for us not adding to our goal tally.

Splendid contribution came from Sophie, Dante and Kian, who were rock solid at the back. Well done to every one who played their parts as substitutes and played in several different positions.

On what was a bitter afternoon the team performed fantastically and ran out worthy 3-2 winners.

Congratulations everyone, see you on Tuesday at training

17th January 2010

Having not played for what seems an age, we entertained Ashton Boys at YOSC on Sunday afternoon.

Despite all of the recent adverse weather conditions the pitch proved very playable, with only the home team touchline being extremely "boggy".

With one victory against Ashton already this season, we were optimistic of "doing the double". A narrow win away from home earlier in the season meant that we were in for another close game.

Our "A" team played first and ran out worthy 4-0 winners. William Phillips opened the scoring with a great shot from a sharp angle then minutes later he got his second, a calmly taken "slot in". Ten minutes later the captain  "Big" George smith made it three with a rocket from just outside the box. The Yate team settled down and took control of the game. At half time "Big" George took the keepers jersey allowing Stephen to take is place on the pitch. The manager decided to do some tactical changes in the second half playing Mason alongside Cody up front. Lewis and Stephen held strong in defence whilst Ryan trailblazed up the right wing. Marcus was unlucky to have not netted a few goals himself. A quick break through mid field with Marcus best chance unfortunately going wide of the goal. Ian came on as sub for Ryan and made "a right nuisance of him self" at left half. Then some excellant one two between Cody and Mason up front led to Mason scoring and making it four to Yate. Willaim Phillips took man of the match and deservidly so. Like Paul said "we did em".

The "B" team took to the field looking to defend the lead. A fine performance from Kieran Kaye, in goal and out, saw him presented with the Man ot the Match award.

Well done to George W Smith for taking care of the goal in the 1st Half. Other fine performances were from Kyle, covering lots of ground in Midfield. Owen was solid in his tackling, Dante was always in the right place in defence, George Sanders showed us some wonderful trickery with the ball and nearly capped his afternoon off when a one on one with the goalie was well saved. Sophie gave her all and  defended really well whilst a good allround performance from Nathan ensured that the aggregate score, at 4-2 overall, was enough for the 3 points.

Well done to both teams!
